Chamber
The chamber is constructed from 10” schedule 80S stainless steel (304) pipe. Actual outer diameter is 10.75”, inner diameter is 10.25”. A 1” length of this pipe was machined to form the chamber, including ten KF16 ports, and ten 2-56 tapped holes on each side for lids. Lids were machined from 0.200” thick 304 stainless steel 11x11” sheets. Countersunk holes for silver plated 2-56 screws were added, along with a gland in each lid for a Viton -273 o-ring. Hysol 1C vacuum epoxy is used to attach ten KF16 blank weld flanges to the chamber. Total chamber height is 1.42” The o-ring gland is designed for 42% squeeze, at depth of 0.080” and width of 0.140”. Estimated lid deflection at the center under vacuum is 0.03”.
The 10 KF-16 ports are used as follows (in order, clockwise from top view):
1 - Vacuum pump – KF16-KF25 adapter, KF25 hose to diffusion pump
2 - high vacuum gauge – Granville-Phillips 354
3 -Viewport – ¼” borosilicate glass epoxied to flange
4 - rough vacuum gauge - MKS 901P
5 - Blank – KF16 blank
6 - Dee RF – HV feed from RG6 output of matching network
7 - filament, RF pickup – 4 pin vacuum feed-thru,, two filament, two RF pickup coil
8 - H2 inlet – KF16 to Swagelok ¼” copper tubing adapter, to needle valve and H2 source
9 - Faraday cup – 4 pin vacuum feed thru to triax cable, feeding to coulometer
10 - linear translator – 4 inch travel linear translator to adjust Faraday cup position
